Contaminated Sites Assessment and Remediation

We have extensive experience providing assessment and remediation of various contaminants, including asbestos, PFAS, metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and polyaromatic hydrocarbons.

Statutory Auditing

Aurora Environmental is proud to offer statutory auditing services led by Brad Dermody, one of the few WA-based Contaminated Sites Auditors (CSA) accredited by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.

Brad is a renowned principal environmental scientist with over 20 years of consulting experience. He is dedicated to delivering responsive, high-quality, and clear guidance. His pragmatic and collaborative approach ensures effective solutions for our clients contaminated site issues.

Brad provides expert technical advice, peer reviews, and conducts voluntary contaminated sites audits in accordance with the Contaminated Sites Act 2003.

Property Due Diligence Land Suitability Assessment

Aurora Environmental offers comprehensive land suitability assessments ensuring optimal land use and development. Our services include due diligence assessments for acquisitions and developments, land use feasibility and suitability studies, and environmental constraint analysis.

Acid Sulphate Soils

Aurora Environmental offers a comprehensive range of services to assess and manage acid sulphate soils ASS). Our expert team conducts detailed assessments, risk evaluations, and mapping to identify and quantify ASS presence. We specialise in developing and implementing Acid Sulfate Soil and Dewatering Management Plans (ASSMPs / DMP) tailored to each project, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and minimising environmental impact.

We also provide strategic advice for effective mitigation and remediation measures, along with monitoring and reporting to ensure long-term project success and regulatory compliance.

Occupational Hygiene & Asbestos

Our OHS Group at Aurora Environmental has extensive experience in occupational hygiene risk management, specialising in asbestos and other hazardous materials in buildings and infrastructure across all project phases, from design to demolition. We assist clients with managing chemical, physical, and biological hazards, including dust and airborne asbestos fibres, fumes, vapours, noise and vibration, thermal conditions, indoor air quality, and water quality.

We conduct thorough investigations to identify hazards, assess risks, and provide solutions, including targeted remedial actions, management plans, and strategic advice. Our OHS team covers a broad spectrum of hazards and workplace settings and is actively involved in both the commercial and government sectors. We maintain a strong presence in higher-risk sectors such as industry, mining, and resources, offering services like occupational hygiene monitoring, health surveillance, health risk management, potable water management, and occupational noise management for major construction, operations, and closure projects.

Our comprehensive approach to occupational health ensures stewardship and addresses a wide range of needs, from identifying hazards to implementing effective control measures.

EIA and Environmental Management

Aurora Environmental offers expertise in environmental impact assessment (EIA), approvals, environmental management and compliance across a variety of sectors for both private and public clients. We are solutions focused and committed to the preparation of quality documentation underpinned by practical, effective mitigation strategies for complex problems. Our services include:

  • EIA: assessing environmental aspects and evaluating the significance of impacts to State factors and Commonwealth Matters of National Environmental Significance.
  • Approvals: preparing Section 38 WA Environment Protection Act 1986 (EP Act) and/or Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act) referrals, environmental scoping documents, environmental review documentation, response to submissions, Section 43A, 45C and 46 applications, and appeals.
  • Licencing and permitting: We prepare application documentation for owners / occupiers of prescribed premises that require approvals under Part V EP Act. We also prepare applications to take groundwater / surface water and permits required to interfere with the bed and banks under the (WA) Rights in Water and Irrigation Act 1914.
  • Native vegetation clearing permit applications: We prepare application packages for proponents wanting to clear native vegetation under Part V EP Act.
  • Offsets: We assist clients to develop practical and achievable environmental offset packages to counterbalance project residual significant impacts as required under State and Commonwealth approvals.
  • Mining: We prepare Mining Proposals and Mine Closure Plans to facilitate mining and related activities.
  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS) & Compliance: The team has a diverse range of experience and can assist with environmental planning, EMS, environmental monitoring and compliance auditing.

Ecological services

With experience across Western Australia, Aurora Environmental provides a range of tailored ecological services inclusive of planning, field surveying, data analysis, reporting and monitoring. Our services include:

  • Flora and vegetation surveys (desktop, reconnaissance, detailed and targeted threatened flora surveys)
  • Weed surveys and mapping
  • Fauna and habitat surveys (desktop, basic, detailed and targeted surveys)
  • Black cockatoo habitat assessments
  • Fauna relocation and monitoring programs
  • Applications under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 to ‘take’ flora / fauna or modify threatened ecological communities

Radiation

Aurora Environmental provides a range of services including suspect material monitoring, identification, and sampling, airborne monitoring, clearance inspections, and the preparation of radiation management plans. We also engage with stakeholders and regulators on our client’s behalf.

  • Fixed radiation gauge surveys and compliance audits

  • Environmental gamma baseline surveys

  • Airborne dust and radon sampling and monitoring

  • Radioactive waste disposals at the Intractable Waste Disposal Facility (IWDF), with Aurora serving as the contracted Facility Manager and providing the nominated Radiation Safety Officer

Waste Management

Aurora Environmental’s mutlidisciplinary team is committed to driving sustrainable waste management practices across Western Australia.

Our team advises clients in the waste management sector on site selection, environmental approvals (such as works approvals and licence applications), preparation of Waste Managemnet Plans, waste characterisation, handling, and disposal (including intractable and other hazardous or problematic wastes), environmental monitoring, compliance, and annual reporting.
