Empowering Futures: Aurora Environmental supports Aboriginal Excellence

Aurora Environmental has been a proud sponsor of Mount Lawley Senior High School’s Aboriginal Excellence Program for the past six years. The program supports the tertiary aspirations of Aboriginal students throughout their secondary schooling.

Selected students receive a holistic and personalised learning experience, including mentoring, targeted homework classes, leadership development, career and vocational opportunities, and support for parents. They are also invited to extracurricular activities such as cultural cooking and heritage classes. Aurora employees are encouraged to attend these cultural workshops with the students.

Aurora Environmental Director, Brad, expressed pride in supporting this important program for Aboriginal youth. “Mount Lawley Senior High School’s commitment to providing meaningful education programs aligns with Aurora’s goal to extend our understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and languages. We aim to promote ongoing awareness and appreciation of First Nation culture among our staff, subcontractors, and clients,” he said.

Former Program Coordinator Dr Philip Paioff stated, “Aurora’s financial and professional hands-on support is integral to the overall progress and success of this acclaimed program.”

The success of this program is evident, as Mount Lawley Senior High School is the only school in Western Australia to have won two Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Aboriginal Education in 2016 and 2021.

In the future, Aurora Environmental aims to provide mentors and scholarships to students interested in pursuing a career in environmental science. “By building on our partnership, we can directly support students by providing direct access to our knowledgeable team members and creating opportunities in the workplace,” said Brad.
