Contaminated Sites Consultant

Aurora Environmental was engaged to develop a strategy for reclassifying a site and nearby properties contaminated by a historical loss of petrol from service station operations which had migrated into the groundwater. After reviewing previous investigation data, Aurora proposed an approach, that was endorsed by Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) accredited contaminated sites auditor. It included assessing the risks to human health and the environment.

A soil vapour investigation and numerical assessment of plume stability were conducted to inform the risk assessment. Aurora also managed stakeholder engagement, including communications with affected site owners.

Key Deliverables:

  • Strategic environmental advice and site management planning.
  • Soil vapour sampling and risk assessment.
  • Groundwater investigation, monitoring and assessment, including plume stability assessment.

Aurora’s approach led to the successful reclassification of the site and affected sites as “remediated for restricted use” by the DWER. As a result, no further remediation was required, with ongoing groundwater monitoring and controls now in place. Aurora’s risk assessment helped the client manage their legal and financial liabilities under the Contaminated Sites Act.
